When asked for the reason behind this style of painting, Rachel admits she’s always been intrigued by innocence and ambivalence of small creatures such as duckling, mice and rats in the face of catastrophic world events.
“I’ve always been drawn to the personality of rats and mice, so I don’t need much of an excuse to put these creatures in a painting” says Rachel. “They’re so fresh and bright and untainted by our sometimes sordid world – I use them as a foil to highlight the nonsense of our lives.”
As well as the exhibition, Red Hare Publishing will be producing a limited edition book of 500 copies. We’ll put it on the Red Hare website when it’s published so it’s easier to click and buy.
We will be updating Rachel’s web page to show all the images in the exhibition in July.
